Accessibility Engineer

Yale University, New Haven, CT

We're seeking an experienced web accessibility engineer to join the accessibility team at Yale. The position will be expected to work onsite in New Haven, CT.

Position Focus

Reporting to the Associate Director of Digital Accessibility, this position requires an accessibility professional able to support digital accessibility efforts across Yale’s campus. This role will support not only Yale’s technology but also its other web practitioners throughout the planning, design, development and maintenance of its websites and applications. The successful candidate will possess not only solid technical proficiencies but also strong strategic, creative and planning skills that enable one to communicate, facilitate and drive solutions.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Demonstrated ability with WCAG 2.1, WAI-ARIA. Ability to translate standards into requirements for developers and designers. Support developers, designers, and content editors in implementing these standards. Ability to look beyond satisfying standards to understand what creates excellent user experiences for all users regardless of ability. Demonstrated proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related technology. Familiarity with front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap or Foundation. Familiarity with version control technologies such as Git. Familiarity configuring and coding for Drupal or WordPress. Ability to validate websites for accessibility. Knowledge of auditing procedures and communicating audit results to technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to choose appropriate accessibility testing procedures, and knowledge of supporting tools. Proficiency in using at least one major screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, or VoiceOver), and other assistive technology.
